Putt With Confidence

Arrow Email this Article to a Friend

I have a preplay putting drill i use before every round i play. I set up two to three feet from the hole with two coins about 12 to 15 inches apart. I start putting from the first coin. If make the first two putts, i don't putt the third ball. When i make two out of three balls from the first coin, I move to the back coin. If I make two out of three balls from the back coin, i move the front coin back 12 to 15 inches and putt from that coin. If i don't make two out of three from the back coin, i move to a point half the distance between the two coins. If i don't make two out of three from this distance, I move to a point that is 1/4 the distance between the two coins.

I continue to increase my distance from the hole only when i have success. When it is time to play i have a "confidence distance" from the hole that is based upon my successful performance. One day that distance might be six feet and the next sixteen feet.
