Practice Your Success on the Range
Now, take your shot scorecard to the range. Warm-up and begin to hit your scorecard one shot at a time. Hit only the shots you rated a nine or 10. Start with your tee and approach shots. Find the first shot you rated a nine or 10, pull the club, and set up behind the ball. You will have no difficulty picturing the shot you already hit. See the shot, feel the swing that produced that shot and set up and hit the shot again. Hit only one shot with each club as go through your scorecard hitting your 9s and 10s. Notice the level of confidence you have as you "call up your past success." Practice your scorecard after every round you play and you will have skills to draw upon on the golf course. The next time you get on the tee of that hole where you seldom hit a decent drive, call up a similar drive you have hit well on another hole. See the shot and feel the swing that produced the shot. With practice, you will be able to "call up" your past success on most of the shots you hit on the course. The mental game requires as much practice as the mechanical. The difference between the struggling player and the great player is when face with adversity, the struggling player calls up their past failures. The great player, when faced with difficult shots calls up their past success.
