Visualization
Now, stare at the blade of grass and take a deep breath. At the top of your inhalation, take a picture of the blade of grass in your mind’s eye, close your eyes, and stroke the putt holding a picture of the target. Repeat this drill from longer and longer distances. Leave your eyes closed until you hear the ball drop into the hole. Again, notice the clearer your image of the target, the better your speed control. Repeat the drill again. This time open your eyes when you bring the image back to the ball. Project your image of the target onto the ball. Listen for the ball to roll into the hole. Thinking about your mental mechanics will produce the same poor performance thinking about your physical mechanics. Practice these mental drills independently on both the putting green and range. Once they are well practice, blend the verses of your mental routine.
