Blending Science and Art
Set up to a putt. Look at your target repeatedly. Take a deep breath your last look at the target. When you have filled your lungs completely, take a picture of your target in your mind’s eye. Slowly turn your head back to the ball as you start your exhalation. Stare "though" the ball as you hold the image of your target in your mind’s eye. Stroke your putt as you hold this image. As you begin your putting stroke, you should be 2/3 to 3/4 of the way through your exhalation. Hold your image as long as possible. Notice that the better your picture of the target, the better your speed. Your performance will deteriorate briefly as you adjust to the change in your head position and the imagery and breathing. If you breathe at the same point each time in your routine, your breathing will soon become automatic. This process of imagery and breathing applies from putter through driver. Remember, breathing facilitates both relaxation and balance. Breathing is a must in your mental and physical routine. Breathing is the bridge between the Science and Art.
