Practice From the Correct Set Up (Don’t Miss the Shot Before You Swing the Club!)
I tell my Golf School students that Science has no role on the course. Science is practiced sequentially doing drills in front of a mirror. These drills are blended on the range as you hit balls. It is imperative that you do drills with the correct set up. Practice makes permanent. If you are doing drills, be certain you are in the correct set up before you do the drill. Know that you are balanced with neutral hands, shoulders and stance lines set when you practice your set up or do motion drills. Did you know that you can tell your hand position and heel to toe balance at address simply by hinging the club? Try the following. Set up with your putter and address a ball. Stay in your set up posture and hinge your wrists so that the shaft is parallel to the ground and 90 degrees to your body. Look at the face position. Is it square, open or closed? This will tell you where you are aimed. For example, if you are right handed and the face is open you are aimed right. The face angle changes based upon your heel to toe right to left balance and your hand position. You can learn to "read" your set up simply by hinging your wrists. This is true for every club in your bag. The Under Par Golf Schools uses the "Wright Hinge" in teaching and there is a patent pending on this method of reading a balanced neutral set up.
